ESAMON
Real-time Monitor modeled
after our flagship product - ESAMAP
Real-time performance monitoring and analysis
for z/VM and VM/ESA systems. ESAMON is an on-line real-time
display facility that gives you up-to-the-minute information on
the performance of your Z/VM or VM/ESA system. ESAMON analyzes
and records performance monitor data produced by the system,
then generates real-time displays of this information.
ESAMON can
display resource contention, consumption levels, transaction
response times, user service levels and much more - for groups
of users or for individuals. It can analyze CPU, storage and I/O
performance in depth, and lets you define classes of virtual
machines for detailed study of applications, user communities
and services.
ESAMON helps you understand system events as they unfold,
to pinpoint problems and quickly correct them.
Industry Leader:
Since 1989, ESAMON has continued to gain market share as the
most comprehensive VM performance monitor on the market. Being
the industry leader means leading in all areas. If you have a
performance problem, you need the leader, you need to have all
the information available to you. Velocity Software is the
leader.
Features and Benefits
Complete Display Facility:
Over 100 easily
navigated screens from high-level overviews to detailed
subsystem displays. Displays include statistical summaries, full
DASD cache analysis, SFS analysis, device analysis, Minidisk
Cache, and even seeks analysis - all critical for performance
management.
Tailored
Displays: Screens can be tailored to meet
individual or installation requirements. This Includes the
ability to set alert conditions, highlighted in the user's
choice of color and video characteristics.
Automatic
Updates: Screens are automatically updated to
provide current performance information.
Real Time Tuning:
ESAMON provides a powerful real time programming
interface to your performance data. This allows you to program
your own responses to performance criteria.
See The Alert Function Description
for details.
Service Level
Agreements: Unique Service Level Agreement (SLA)
facility provides the ability to measure actual user response
time against management objectives - the only such facility in a
VM product. You will know real time how your performance is
doing as compared to your service level agreements.
Easy to Use:
ESAMON takes the look of ESAMAP reports and presents
your real time data in that very intuitive format. ESAMON
screens are automatically updated with up-to-the-minute
performance information.
Low Cost of
Operation: ESAMON provides significant resource
savings over other monitors even when monitoring all users,
transactions, and even with seeks enabled. ESAMON uses far fewer
resources than competing real-time monitors, even when
monitoring all users and transactions, and with seeks enabled
(After all, what is the point of a real-time monitor that
creates performance problems?). ESAMON dynamically reduces raw
monitor data to history files, using only a small fraction of
the DASD required by competing products. This allows weeks or
months of performance data to be available online, while
providing up-to-the-minute information to guide you through
problem determination.
Standard
Interface: Based on the CP monitor facility,
installation requires no "hooks" into the
operating system, and no upgrades are required when you install
a new version of VM/ESA. Today - ESAMON, ESAMAP and ESAWRITE
support all existing releases of z/VM and VM/ESA. This allows
you to maintain a single monitor for use with multiple systems
or images running diverse VM versions. New releases of VM are
supported immediately at availability.
Application Analysis:
Many applications have been instrumented and may be
analyzed using ESAMON. This includes applications such as FOCUS
from IBI, EnterpriseWeb from Beyond Software, Trivial FTP from
IBM, TCPIP, POP Server from VM Resources, and more.
ESAMON also provides input such as
condensed history files and monitor record extracts
that can be employed
with other CPM products such as:
ESAMAP
to provide tailored performance
reports and accounting for z/VM, distributed
servers and networks
MXGTM
for enterprise reporting,
including Linux and network performance data
